RELIGION
The promotion of the teachings of the Catholic faith helps to create a learning environment of mutual respect that enables a child to reach his or her full potential. Our lessons sow the seeds of faith so that the child can grow up to be compassionate and contributing members of society. Religious teachings emphasizes moral codes designed to instill character and values such as self-control and social competence.
STEM
STEM is an acronym for Science Technology Engineering and Math. STEM education, as part of a curriculum, helps students better understand the world around them and enhances their ability to relate to their environment. STEM education encourages inquisition, experimentation, critical thinking, problem-solving, ingenuity, creativity, colloboration, teamwork and knowledge application.
LETTER RECOGNITION & PHONICS
Learning how printed text is associated with the spoken language is an important step for learning how to read.
NUMBER RECOGNITION & MATH CONCEPTS
Learning to recognize numbers supports the development of other number skills such as counting, classification, spatial sense, problem solving and observation.
SHAPES & COLORS
Learning shapes and colors helps children identify and organize visual information as well as teaches children to think about the attributes of objects and make observations about similarities and differences.
LITERATURE
Every classroom is equipped with an assortment of age appropriate books. Reading stories aloud stimulates the imagination of children and expands their understanding of the world around them. Reading to children helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.
DRAMATIC, PRETEND & IMAGINATIVE PLAY
Our 2 year old to Preschool-age classrooms are equiped with pretend play costumes and dramatic play centers such as a grocery store, diner, kitchen, ice cream stand, and vegetable stand. Dramatic play allows children to act out scenarios that they have seen or heard in movies, stories or in real life. Students use dramatic play as an emotional outlet to explore their own thoughts and feelings. It also encourages students to put themselves in someone else's shoes. It is a great way to teach the social skill of empathy and forgiveness.
GROSS MOTOR ACTIVITIES
Activities that work on developing gross motor skills helps a child to gain confidence in his or her body and strength. Exercise and physical activitiy promotes a healthier lifestyle and helps to develop more complex skills for future activities such as playing a sport. Outdoor play is very important in helping to develop gross motor skills.
FINE MOTOR ACTIVITIES
Activities that work on developing fine motor skills helps a child to develop hand-eye coordination. The development of this skill is important for learning how to hold a pencil and self-care (brushing teeth, using a fork or a spoon, putting on clothes, combing hair, etc.). The development of fine motor skills is the gateway to a child's independance.
ARTS & CRAFT
Our lessons incorporate the use of arts and crafts as it promotes innovation, creativity, boosts self esteem, improves hand-eye coordination, ecourages self expression, develops fine motor skills, and it enhances decision-making skills. It also gives the child a sense of achievement and allows him or her to take pride in their work which builds confidence.
MUSIC & MOVEMENT
Incorporating music and movement in daily lessons helps to improve a child's memory, cognititve developemnt, learning skills, and expressive ability. It promotes group learning and allows children to practice social skills such as taking turns and cooperation.
